How FinanceX works
What each mode does, what the numbers mean, and what happens when you ask something.
Fast vs. Deep — which one to use
Every question runs through one of two modes. You pick with the FAST / DEEP toggle above the ask box.
FAST · FACTS
Answers from our local database, live market quotes, and real calculations (Sharpe, frontier, CAPM, hedges) — no web browsing. Ready in seconds.
Best for: "what's my portfolio risk", "NVDA current price", "AAPL PE ratio" — a question about one security the numbers can answer directly.
DEEP · EVIDENCE
Reads actual filings (SEC/DART), searches the web, and builds a cited report with every claim checked against its source. Takes longer — it's doing real research.
Best for: "why did this stock move", "compare X and Y's latest earnings", anything that needs outside evidence, not just our numbers.
Rule of thumb: if the answer is a number you could look up on a terminal, use Fast. If the answer is "why" or "how does this compare", use Deep. Fast never silently changes into Deep; an unresolved Fast request offers a visible Deep handoff.
Hire a manager, then keep working with them
A FinanceX manager is a persistent mandate around your real holdings—not a different chatbot skin and not permission to trade. Hiring keeps your current book, benchmark, risk policy, horizon, thesis, questions, signals, and review proposals together.
- 01DiscoverFilter managers by the markets and sectors you care about, then open a dossier to inspect objective, process, benchmark, risk policy, model book, and live portfolio math.
- 02CompareCompare the manager book with your book using total risk, Sharpe, beta, and the computed systematic-versus-specific variance split against the same benchmark.
- 03HireConfirm the mandate without replacing your real holdings. Loading the manager model book is a separate, explicit action.
- 04AskThe manager receives your mandate, current shares, benchmark, thesis, and recent questions. Answers separate observed facts, computed results, assumptions, and manager judgment.
- 05MonitorSignals watch concentration, correlation, drawdown, beta policy, portfolio moves, and interests. The inbox records review items; external email/push delivery is not connected yet.
- 06ProposeFrontier and hedge outputs become current-to-target proposals for review. FinanceX never claims a trade was placed and requires the user to approve any later execution step.
Price moves, threshold alerts, new evidence, and immediate policy breaches.
Risk contribution, correlation drift, thesis evidence, and pending manager questions.
Mandate fit, benchmark-relative results, turnover, and reviewable rebalance proposals.
Current persistence is device-local. Conversations reopen in this browser, but authenticated cross-device manager memory remains a later account-sync feature.
What the Trust score means
Every answer is checked claim-by-claim against the sources actually used to write it — not a general confidence guess. The Trust score is the fraction of claims in the answer that a verifier could confirm against a real source (a filing, a live quote, a calculation). 70% or higher passes.
● Grounded — the exact number/fact matched its cited source
● Unclear — cited, but couldn't be numerically confirmed
● Review — no matching source found; treat with caution
Click any citation marker in an answer to see the exact source it was checked against.
How the portfolio flow works
Once you add real holdings (ticker + shares), the homepage reads top to bottom as one analysis:
- 1PortfolioLive mark-to-market value and weight of each holding — real quotes, not stale data.
- 2DiagnosisPlain-English read on risk, Sharpe ratio, correlation, and worst historical drawdown.
- 3ActionThe efficient frontier / CAPM chart, plus a swap tool: replace one holding and see risk and return actually recompute.
- 4AskAny follow-up question runs through Fast or Deep with your portfolio as context.
Search, watchlist, and bookmarks
Press /anywhere to jump into search. Search covers our database, security master, and a live vendor fallback — it isn't limited to a fixed list of tickers. Search suggestions never open information on hover; click a company to load its price, valuation, coverage, bookmark, and + Book actions.
The ★ watch toggle and + Book button work without an account — they save to this browser. Sign in later and they carry over; you never lose a bookmark by starting before you log in.
FAQ
Why is one holding’s data stale?
We fall back to our historical price table when a live quote provider doesn’t cover that ticker (this happens for some KRX-listed names). Stale rows are never silently shown as live — check the "is_live" indicator on that row.
Can I ask about a stock I don’t own?
Yes — search for it and hit Fast or Deep directly from the result row, no need to add it to your portfolio first.
What benchmark does the frontier/CAPM chart use?
The selected manager or portfolio supplies an explicit production-covered benchmark such as SPY or QQQ. It is displayed in the controls and decomposition methodology; FinanceX never silently substitutes another security.
Does Deep Research always beat Fast?
No — Deep takes longer because it’s reading filings and the web. For a number that’s already in our database (price, computed risk), Fast gives the identical answer faster.
